The 6 smartphones coming in 2020

The year 2020 marks the beginning of a new decade and all smartphone manufacturers intend to mark the occasion. This year will be marked by the emergence of new technologies such as 5G and foldable screens to name but a few. Smartphone accessible, mid-range or high-end: here are six new machines that will arrive on the market in 2020.

1. Samsung Galaxy S20

When you were told that smartphone brands wanted to mark the beginning of the decade, it wasn't just a way of talking. Indeed, Samsung has decided not to follow the logical follow-up to the name of its flagship smartphones. So we go directly from the Galaxy S10 to the Galaxy S20, simply to mark the beginning of this new decade, this year 2020 but also the 10 years of the Galaxy S range. Three models are available for purchase: the Galaxy S20, the Galaxy S20 and the Galaxy S20 Ultra.

Here are the most important features of this flagship of the South Korean manufacturer. First, this smartphone is compatible with 5G. That said, Samsung only launches these versions in countries where this technology is already available. Next, Samsung intends to upgrade to Apple and its iPhones with multiple photo sensors. Thus, each Galaxy S20 has 3 sensors: a main camera (12 MP) with an aperture of f/1.8, an UltreWide lens (12 MP) and a special telephoto lens (64 MP).

The Samsung Galaxy S20 and S20 Ultra have an additional fourth ToF (Time of Flight) sensor that can better look at the outlook. On the other hand, the quality of the photos varies according to the models. Indeed, the Galaxy S20 Ultra simply offers the best cameras on the market: 108 megapixels for the main sensor, 48 megapixels for the telephoto lens and 12 megapixels for the ultra wide-angle. While for the other two devices in the range, we stay on the 12-megapixel and 64-megapixel for wide-angle lens.

And for selfies, a front-facing camera is located in the middle of the camera, above the screen. The quality is obviously there since the S20 Ultra will take pictures of 40 megapixels. And that's not all because it's possible to record videos in 8K, the best in terms of image quality!

At the screen level, the S20 has a 6.7-inch screen, similar in size to the Galaxy Note 10. We are talking about an AMOLED screen with a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The fingerprint reader is also larger and installed directly on the screen to allow faster and simpler unlocking.

It is important to state that there are three models. The S20 is actually the standard model, the S20 the more affordable model with a 6.2-inch screen and finally, the S20 Ultra is the high-end model with a 6.9-inch screen.

Finally, performance level, we find a SoC Exynos 990 processor or a Snapdragon 865 and 12GB of RAM for the S20 Ultra. The S20 and S20 offer 8GB of RAM. Beautiful machines.

2. OnePlus 8

The OnePlus 8 has also been in stores since this spring. In addition to the standard model, the Chinese brand offers a more elaborate variant: the OnePlus 8 Pro. Both machines are equipped with a Fluid AMOLED display, although the Pro version is slightly larger: 6.78 inches versus 6.55 inches for the base model.

Where the OnePlus 8 Pro stands out is the refresh frequency of the screen that reaches 120 Hz, compared to 90 Hz for the OnePlus 8. This is a very important aspect for people used to playing and watching series and movies on their smartphones. Thanks to the high-performance Snapdragon 865 processor, this smartphone can run very greedy applications but also take advantage of the features of 5G.

At the camera level, both models offer a powerful main camera. The OnePlus 8 Pro is more generous by including a wide-angle camera of no less than 120 degrees, a telephoto lens with a 3x hybrid zoom and a 30x digital zoom as well as a separate color filter camera.

3. Huawei P40

Huawei returns this spring with the successor to the P30 and it will be no great surprise the P40. In addition to the standard version, two more expensive models will be available: the P40 Pro and the Pro.

As with the P30 and P30 Pro, the focus is on the quality of the cameras and cameras. Indeed, it is difficult to do better than Huawei in this area. On the different models of the range we will find 3 to 5 photo sensors per camera: 3 for the P40, 4 for the P40 Pro and 5 for the P40 Pro! And that's not all: these goals would be developed by Imaging Leica, experts in the field of photography.

The quality of these lenses will also vary depending on the cameras but we will be on 54, 48 or 40 MP for the main sensors and 8 MP for telephoto and wide-angle. For the front camera, you'll find 40MP (with an extra wide-angle lens) on the P40 and P40 Pro and 16MP on the Lite.

At the screen level, the P40 offers the smallest size, 6.1 inches. The Pro and Pro versions offer larger 6.58-inch screens. Finally, the Lite will be in between with a 6.4-inchintermediate screen. The screen of the standard version will be flat while that of the pro models will be curved at the edges. All devices will offer 8GB of RAM,only the Lite will be a little less powerful with 6GB. In terms of internal storage, we'll be on 128GB while the Pro will reach 512GB.

All this will run on the Chinese Kirin 990 55 processor (except the Lite which will be equipped with a Kirin 810) and this smartphone will charge extremely quickly thanks to the all-new charging cable. All of these devices will be released in the spring of 2020. On the other hand, we will have to wait a little to get our hands on the P40 Pro which will be released at the beginning of the summer.

4. The new iPhone

Every year, the new iPhone smartphones are the subject of every possible and conceivable speculation. Moreover, it is still not known when the new model will be born or as it will be called. Moreover, we don't know much about what this new iPhone will be able to do. So here's what we know at the moment.

According to several rumors, Apple should abandon the rounded edges to return to square edges like those of the iPhone 4, once very popular. We can also expect the notch to disappear for the front camera as is the case for many smartphones on the market. The back of the phone, meanwhile, should remain frosted glass like that of the iPhone 11.

As every year, we will have to expect several models offered at different rates to please everyone. Moreover, some iPhone 11s are equipped with LCD screens while high-end iPhone 11s come with OLED screens. So, regarding the new iPhone, we should expect OLED screens for all models to stay competitive. It is also hoped that these screens will use a refresh rate of 120 Hz.

As for the camera, rumors suggest that the next-generation iPhone will be equipped with 3D depth-sensing cameras as well as an improved night mode, which has so enthreply excited users of the iPhone 11. All that remains is to wait for the release of these new devices. See you in the fall of 2020?

5. LG V60 ThinQ

LG has been offering two important models for several years: the V-Series and the G-Series. Both ranges offer high-quality smartphones, but this year rumours have circulated about the future of the G-Series. It is supposed to be "downgraded" into a slightly cheaper model, making the V-Series the true flagship of LG. That's why we look forward to the LG V60 ThinQ, the successor to the V50.

The ThinQ V60 has a 6.8-inch OLED display and works with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865processor. The device is also ready for 5G. It will carry three cameras: a 64MP main camera,an ultra wide-angle 13MP lens and a ToF sensor. The front-facing camera will offer 10MP shots. LG also focuses on audio with the presence of four microphones for audio recordings.

As with the V50 ThinQ, this device will feature the DualScreen accessory to add a screen to the smartphone. This new device will probably be released in May. In the meantime, we will be attentive to what LG will offer for its new G9 ThinQ.

6. Nokia 9.2 PureView

Of all the smartphones on the list, the Nokia 9.2 PureView is the one we know the least. It must be said that Nokia is no longer the brand it was in the early 2000s and it is struggling to find its audience at the moment. But still, the Nokia 9.2 PureView has arguments to make despite its chaotic development.

Indeed, the release of this high-end smartphone had to be postponed since the developers had to change the processor under development so that the machine did not come out already obsolete technologically.

We don't know much yet about this new high-end smartphone from Nokia but if we look at its predecessor, the Nokia 9 PureView, we can draw some conclusions. We expect a rather thin smartphone with a screen of at least 6 inches that emphasizes the quality of cameras and camera. Indeed, the Nokia 9 has 5 lenses and it should be the same for the 9.2 which should be released at the end of the year.

On the other hand, a wide-angle lens can be expected to be added to the Nokia 9.2, a lens absent from its predecessor. At the front, to take nice selfies, the phone will be equipped with a 32 MP camera!

Going back to the screen, we can expect to find the POLED technology that allows to light each pixel retro, making the whole thing very bright and pleasant to use. The fingerprint reader should be on the screen itself, as with the Nokia 9.

It is also hoped that Nokia will finally decide to remove the edges of the screen that give the device an old-fashioned appearance. The same goes for the notch of the front-facing camera, which also reduces the space for the screen. In the end, Nokia's biggest challenge is to elevate this new smartphone to the rank of its competitors, something the Finnish brand had failed to do with the Nokia 9, at least in terms of visuals since performance has nothing to complain about.
